Every year, the four major broadcast networks in the Unites States take turns broadcasting the Emmy Awards, the most important awards show of the small screen as it's given by The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Whoever broadcasts also gets to choose a host. For 2016, it's ABC's turn, and of course, they're bringing their game up: Jimmy Kimmel will emcee TV's big night!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, news of Kimmel joining this year's broadcast was announced early Monday morning through an official statement, with the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host later confirming it on Twitter, wishing everyone to "a great summer" until then.

Last month, Variety reported that Kimmel was in talks to join as the host of the 2016 edition of TV's biggest night, and now the deal has been finally sealed. Considering he's the only big host currently working on the Disney-owned network, however, Kimmel seemed to be the first and only choice if ABC was planning to keep up with the often-used formula of having late-night show comedians hosting the Emmys.

This will be Kimmel's second time hosting the TV awards show, as he also emceed the big night in 2012, the last time it was broadcast on ABC. The most recent host was Andy Samberg, who represented Fox last year, while NBC recently had talk show hosts (and Saturday Night Live alums) Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon helming the big night. CBS put Neil Patrick Harris on the job in 2009 and 2013.

One man who has more than a little experience hosting awards shows chipped in on Twitter to give Kimmel some advice.

"Let me know if you run out of holocaust or pedophile gags. I've got loads left over :)," tweeted four-time Golden Globe Awards host Ricky Gervais in response to Kimmel's announcement.

This year will mark the 68th edition of the Emmy Awards, and they'll be airing live from the Los Angeles Microsoft Theater on Sunday, September 18.
