Fans of Marvel's Iron Man series must be excited to know that Iron Man 4 is really happening but from the recent reports it looks like Robert Downey Jr may not reprise his role of Tony Stark aka Iron Man as he is getting too old to carry superhero stunts.

After the release of Iron Man 3 in 2013, speculation started to swirl around the Iron Man 4. There were several reports indicating that Iron Man 4 would never happen. But from the recent report by Screenrant, it looks like Marvel Studios is indeed going to work on Iron Man 4 and they will release the film in 2019 or 2020. This confirms that fans of Iron Man will again see him after Captain America: Civil War. However, the new reports further suggest that Robert may not return to play Tony.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Robert said: "I also recognise that I'll be turning 50 by the time I promote this movie. The clock is ticking down on the amount of memories and participation that I would allow myself and not embarrass the medium with."

Clearly, Robert was hinting for the release of Iron Man 4 and also hinted that by the time the film will release, he would no longer be young enough to wear the iron suit and do all the superhero stuntst. So, there is a real possibility that he may not return at all to reprise his role of Iron Man in the upcoming superhero franchise.

Iron Man without Robert is unthinkable, as he has personified the character for so long that when one talks about Iron Man, Robert's witty rumor and his conversations with Jarvis comes into mind. In the same interview with Empire as reported by Mirror, Robert also said to Whedon who recently left Marvel Universe: "It's funny, nobody really ever goes away entirely from the Marvel Universe." It will be interesting to see whether or not these words remain true for Robert.

At this time, there is no official word on Iron Man 4. If fans are waiting to see Robert in his Iron Man suit, then they have to wait till May 6, 2016, when Captain America: Civil War will hit the theatres.
