The latest episode of The Walking Dead Season 6 actually involved the capture and escape of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Carol (Melissa McBride), a lot of dead Saviors as well as the alleged death of a man who claimed to be Negan. However, it seems like Carol is the one who took it the hardest in "The Same Boat." Now, McBride has spoken up about Carol's unexpected smoking, her reaction to the death of fake Negan and how she felt after reading about the season finale.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, McBride commented on her character's new nicotine habit, stating that there may be different factors behind it.

"I think there's several ways to look at it," McBride said before offering two options.

"She could be punishing herself. She's struggling a lot and she could be punishing herself from the inside out in a way," she said. "It could also be a form of escape to do something that's not her. She feels further away from the person she has to be."

Things are definitely changing for Carol, who reacted very differently when Rick (Andrew Lincoln) shot the Savior who claimed to be Negan. McBride explained her character's reaction to the incident.

"I think she's just stunned. She's stunned by the whole experience of being held captive by these women and getting free of them by everything that happened in there," she said, adding that Carol was wondering what would be "the right thing to do" just as Rick killed the captive.

"I think it just stunned her that it can't be. And she just tensed up. She held onto that Rosary. I love that last shot of the blood dripping," McBride said.

But could the change in Carol's attitude have anything to do with her previous confrontation with Morgan (Lennie Jones)? McBride hinted on the possibility that the zen master may have had some effect on her character.

"Well, she struggled with the guilt, I think and I have carried it as I've played the character, which may be different from how people perceive her but I know she has carried it," she said. "I think that, certainly, Morgan is a catalyst that drives this uncertainty even further up to the top burner."

Find out what happens next to Carol in The Walking Dead Season 6, which airs on AMC every Sunday nights.
