Before Anne Hathaway made the world weep with her Oscar-winning performance as Fantine in Les Miserables, she also took the hearts of the people of Genovia in the adorable film adaptations of The Princess Diaries. Now, 12 years after her second outing as Princess Mia in Royal Engagement (opposite not-then-famous Chris Pine), Hathaway wants to reprise her role, according to director Garry Marshall!

The filmmaker recently spoke to People Magazine about possible plans for a sequel, revealing that, despite rumors claiming Princess Diaries 3 won't be happening any time soon, he's talked to Hathaway about the project and she's definitely on board!

"I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan," said Marshall. "Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we're going to do it."

Of course, this might very well be a plan for the long run, as following the birth of her child, it seems most likely that Hathaway will take at least a few months of leave. Still, this is great news for anyone who loves the franchise!

There are a few key members of the Princess Diaries cast that should be present if there is, in fact, a third movie, including the above all Oscar-winning film treasure, Julie Andrews, who played the Queen Dowager in the first two films. Ideally, Héctor Elizondo, whose character, Joe, married Andrews' at the end of the previous film, would come back too -- and really, Pine should be added to every movie anyway, so let's bring him back in as well.

In the years since Princess Diaries 2 came to theaters, Hathaway has grown to be one of the most interesting actresses in Hollywood, going from comedy to drama and musicals, as well as even playing Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's box office smash, The Dark Knight Returns.
