Fox has renewed the Batman prequel, Gotham, for Season 3. This is the prefect opportunity to check out why we're excited for detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and gangster Oswald Copplepot/Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor)'s renewal.

As we previously mentioned, Wrath of the Villains follows the aftermath of Theo Galavan (James Frain)'s disappearance. After seeking vengeance together, the tables have turned for Gordon and Penguin as their allegiance finds itself under pressure. Gotham suddenly found itself under attack from Mister Freeze (Nathan Darrow). What else is Dr. Hugo Strange (BD Wong) working on deep underground, away from prying eyes at Indian Hill?

We have 5 reasons why we're excited for Gotham Season 3 here:

5) This Show's Nuts!

Remember when Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) fought with another Maniax member. In a duel, Jerome had the sword and the other guy had a chainsaw. Somehow, that sword held the strongest steel against a chainsaw. Plot and character development be damned because that scene was ridiculously awesome!

4) The Best Ensemble Ever

The ensemble cast definitely makes the show stand out. Led by Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue delivers the funniest lines as Harvey Bullock and Michael Chiklis means business as Captain Barnes. Who knew Erin Richards had it in her to make Barbara Kean batsh*t crazy!?! Each actor owns the character and makes the scene their own. You couldn't ask for a better live-action adaptation.

3) They're Anti-Heroes!

Interestingly, Riddler and Penguin are the deadliest villains in the Batman mythology. Yet viewers cannot stop themselves from rooting for Penguin (Taylor) and Riddler (Cory Michael Smith). Always the momma's boy, Penguin sought revenge against Theo after he killed his mother. Edward Nygma even admitted to Ms. Kringle that he was talking to his split personality. The Riddler and Penguin haven't crossed the line to become bad guys yet.

2) More Super Villains!

What really makes Batman interesting is because of his long list of rogue gallery. Not only did Gotham introduce audiences to Mister Freeze and Hugo Strange, the show has brought forward secondary characters you would never think of. In our recent recap, Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) took down the leader of The Mutants, from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

1) He's Becoming Batman!

A huge round of applause for David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne) and Camren Bicondova (Selina Kyle)! In This Ball of Mud and Meanness, Bruce met with the man, Matches Malone (Michael Bowen) who may have killed his parents. Though DC Comics fans know it's really Joe Chill, Mazouz's performance makes you really believe this is guy is going to become the Dark Knight.

Season 2 of Gotham continues Mondays at 8pm on Fox.

Readers, are you excited for more Gotham?
