Making A Murderer: Possible Theories on Who Killed Teresa Halbach

Since its release, Making a Murderer has forced a lot of people to question who exactly killed Teresa Halbach. While it seems that Manitowoc residents and the Halbach family were convinced that Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey committed the gruesome crime, evidence is showing otherwise. After watching the series there are some possible theories on who committed the crime.

The rape, murder and dismemberment of Halbach was without a doubt a chilling and heinous crime. While many people strongly believe that Avery and Dassey are guilty of the crime the case was shaky from the beginning. With questionable evidence and a manipulated teen the case was not so open and shut.

According to The Wrap News, if Dassey and Avery truly didn't commit the crime there are a couple of possibilities for who did. With so many different angles to the case and many parties involved, anyone could have committed the crime.

During the trial Ryan Hillegas (Holbach's ex-boyfriend) behavior was a bit questionable. As he was asked questioned pertaining to Halbach's disappearance it was rather strange that he was able to break into her voicemail to aid the investigation. While some people may look at him simply helping things along, others believe that he could possibly have something to do with the crime because of their history together. A cell phone expert revealed during the trial that some of her messages were filled up in the days after her death and that many of the messages were deleted.

Former police sergeant and FBI cold case investigator John Cameron believes that serial killer Edward Wayne Edwards might have killed Halbach. This speaks to Avery's claims that he was framed for the crime. Cameron shared that Edwards like to set others up for his crimes and had a weird obsession with the media attention they received. Several of Edwards's victims were killed on Halloween night just like Halbach.
