Robert De Niro Organizes 'Taxi Driver' Reunion Celebrating Travis Bickle's 40th Anniversary

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Martin Scorsese's classic film, Taxi Driver, and its star, Robert De Niro (who gave life to Travis Bickle), has been making the rounds to gather the cast for a reunion to celebrate the movie. Next month, during De Niro's Tribeca Film Festival, the likes of Jodie Foster, Scorsese, Cybill Shepherd and the film's screeenwriter will be together again!

According to Rolling Stone, some key members from the 1976 classic will reunite to celebrate the film's anniversary in April with a special screening during the festival. The screening will take place at the Beacon Theater, and the main cast will be joined by screenwriter Paul Schrader, who also wrote the Scorsese-De Niro film, Raging Bull.

Of course, following the anniversary screening, the cast and crew will talk about the film and its impact in the four decades following its release on a panel moderated by Kent Jones.

"It's odd to think that four decades have passed since we shot Taxi Driver on the streets of a very different New York City," said Scorsese in a statement, via Consequence of Sound. "It was made in a surge of energy, starting with Paul's one-of-a-kind script, and I was working with an extraordinary group of artistic collaborators as anyone could ever hope for -- Jodie, who was 13 years old at the time, and Bob gave the picture something precious, dangerous and altogether remarkable. I'm honored to take part in the celebration of the film's 40th anniversary at this year's Tribeca Film Festival."

This was one of the first collaborations between Scorsese and De Niro (in total, they've worked on nine movies) and in retrospect, it's amazing to see how many of the people behind Taxi Driver would go on to become legendary.

For instance, Foster, a pre-teen during the shoot, earned her first Oscar nod for the film and she went on to win two Academy Awards and become one of the best actresses in Hollywood as well as a respected director. De Niro has two Oscars to his name, Scorsese has one and multiple nominations, while Shepherd is a multiple Golden Globe winner.

The 40^th anniversary Taxi Driver screening will be on April 21^st.
