Comedian and Actor Garry Shandling Dies Suddenly at Age 66

Comedian Garry Shandling died suddenly Thursday, March 24, at a Los Angeles hospital. Shandling was 66 years old.

According to US Weekly, his death was confirmed by police. After a 911 call was made from his home, and Shandling was taken to the hospital. He was alive when he arrived. 

A source revealed to TMZ that the star seemed to be healthy and spoke to friends the same day he died. Shandling did not appear to have any injuries was not in poor health, the site said.

In a update, TMZ revealed that Shandling died from a massive heart attack, with no prior warning.

Shandling had a successful career for more 40 years. He was a sitcom writer, stand-up comedian, actor and producer.

Shandling was best known for his work on late-night television in the '80s and '90s when he starred in HBO's The Larry Sanders Show. The hit show aired for six seasons from 1992 to 1998. He also won an Emmy for his sitcom that aired on Showtime, It's Garry Shandling's Show. The show debuted in 1986. Shandling also appeared as a guest host for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and was in consideration to take Carson's place once he left.

Just last week, Shandling was spotted with his fellow comedian friends, Kathy Griffin and Bob Odenkirk. Both Griffin and Odenkirk reacted to Shandling's sudden death and retweeted the photo that they shared on Sunday before he died.

In the video below, TMZ cameras caught up with the comedian as he talked about his basketball skills. Shandling claimed that Stephen Curry reminded him of himself when it comes to NBA talents.

Shandling didn't leave a widow or children. R.I.P.
