Dascha Polanco, best known for her role as Dayanara Diaz in Netflix's prison dramedy Orange Is the New Black, has been facing legal troubles of her own for the past few months: a teenage girl named Michelle Cardona accused her of assaulting her. Recently, a court ordered the charges against Polanco to be dismissed -- if the Litchfield inmate behaves.

According to Page Six, last Wednesday the prosecutors of Polanco's case said the case against the actress would be dropped if she doesn't do anything rash and stays out of trouble for the next six months. This is only Polanco's first offense and she's never had any problems with the law, so it's not odd that the D.A. could drop the charges.

Polanco was facing four different counts of assault and harassment after being arrested last July. At the time, she allegedly attacked 17-year-old Cardona after inviting her to her Washington Heights. While it's unclear what prompted the altercation between the two women, Polanco allegedly punched, scratched and pulled Cardona's hair in the summer brawl.

Cardona's injuries were superficial, which is one of the reasons the D.A. agreed to make a deal with Polanco.

The Daily Mail reports things got a little heated in court, however, as the Dominican-born actress and her team claimed Cardona had tried to play dirty when it came to managing the situation.

"[Cardona] devised a plan to have Ms. Polanco pay her to withdraw the charges, which was furthered by a campaign of harassment directed at Ms. Polanco and her family and jeopardized their safety," said Gerald Lefcourt, one of the actress' attorneys, in a recent statement.

Polanco will be returning to the role that made her a star this summer, when the fourth season of Orange is released on Netflix. The show has already been renewed for three more seasons, so there's plenty of Daya to go around!
