The DC flick Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice proved to be one of the darkest superhero movies in history when Henry Cavill's Kal-El went up against Doomsday and unfortunately, didn't walk away from the fight. But what made director Zack Snyder decide on the film to end with Superman's death? Definitely not Christopher Nolan, who had actually tried to talk Snyder out of killing the Man of Steel in BvS!

Snyder recently spoke to Collider, where he confirmed that the Dark Knight Rises director tried to persuade him not to kill Superman off.

"It was pretty early, and Nolan and I had long conversation about it, a really great, sort of philosophical conversation about it," Snyder admitted, adding that Nolan had tried to convince him not to kill off the Man of Steel in the film, but eventually decided it was the best way to go.

"He was really cool because he played an amazing devil's advocate about why not to do it, and then in the end was like, 'No you're right, it's better to do it,'" he revealed.

But what was originally supposed to happen to Superman in BvS? Snyder shared that he and Nolan discussed the possibility of just having Kal-El suspended in space while Ben Affleck's Batman seeks out other metahumans on Earth. He explained that it was necessary to get Superman out of the way so that Bruce would get the headhunting job.

"One of the big things I wanted to make sure of was that as we went into Justice League, Bruce Wayne was the one who was gathering the Justice League," Snyder stated, likening the Caped Crusader to a "samurai" trying to assemble a clan.

"I thought it was really important to have Bruce Wayne be the samurai who goes and finds the other samurai; that to me was important," he said.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is currently showing in theaters worldwide.
