These days, Chris Noth is best known for his role in The Good Wife, but before he played Peter Florrick on the legal/political drama, Noth made women all over in the world swoon as he played Mr. Big opposite Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City. But it turns out HBO didn't want him in the role originally as they wanted 30 Rock star, Alec Baldwin, instead!

Darren Star, the creator of Sex and the City and multiple other shows like Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place, recently talked to Entertainment Weekly about his career and his upcoming projects, including TV Land's Younger. During the interview, the television icon revealed something amazing: he wasn't even too aware of who Noth was at the time, even though he starred in Law & Order!

"I was thinking of Alec Baldwin for Big initially. I don't really watch Law & Order, but I met with Chris Noth and thought he was perfect. I remember the first table read, how good he was. I'm not saying that Chris was Mr. Big, but he brought a lot of his own persona to the role."

Everything worked out in the end, of course, as Noth was a fantastic Mr. Big throughout the series and the two movies that followed, before landing a role in CBS' Julianna Margulies' drama. Baldwin, of course, would go on to make some great television as Jack Donaghy in the Tina Fey-created comedy, earning multiple Emmys and Golden Globes for the role.

Now, according to People Magazine, Big wasn't the only one who almost had a different face in SatC. Before John Corbett was cast in the role of Mr. Big's great rival, Star actually approached Aidan Quinn to play the role of Aidan, but the Legends of the Fall actor wasn't available at the time -- still, the producers liked his name so much they decided to keep it for the character!
