There seems to be a bigger story surrounding Lex Luthor's maniacal plan to rid the world of the Man of Steel in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as the villain mysteriously sets out to retrieve alien tech and gets so much more in a deleted scene. But does the new scene featuring Jesse Eisenberg offer a hint to Darkseid's arrival in the Justice League movies?

In Batman v Superman, Lex procures not just Zod's corpse, but his Kryptonian ship as well, and decides to create Doomsday in the genesis chamber. However, the new deleted scene unleashed by Warner Bros. reveals that he saw so much more in that ship after he sent his creation to go after Henry Cavill's Kal-El.

In the clip titled "Communion," a group of special forces officers enter the ship and discover Lex kneeling in front of a large alien holding out three grey boxes. Within seconds, the creature and his boxes dissolve into thin air, leaving Lex chest-deep in icky alien water with sniper lasers aimed at his back.

Although the deleted scene generally reveals how Lex was captured after he basically had Superman assassinated, it also confirms that he had made a connection with an alien life-form and explains his final words to Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne in prison.

But who is the mysterious alien creature who seemed to have communicated with Lex in Zod's ship? There are speculations that the alien might be one of Darkseid's Elite soldiers, more specifically, Steppenwolf, an immortal villain from Apokalips who is almost as powerful as Superman himself.

The impending arrival of Darkseid was indicated quite clearly in Bruce's nightmare sequence, with the gigantic Omega symbol and the parademons. However, it also hinted on the possibility that Superman may have chosen to side with the villain to destroy the world and that it was necessary to kill Kal to save humanity.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is currently in theaters worldwide.
