In a record move for Woody Allen, it has been announced that a movie made by the legendary filmmaker will open the Cannes Film Festival once again. Allen's Café Society will be the big name on the 2016 edition of the south of France festival. The film, which stars some of Hollywood's biggest names, is led by Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg and Twilight's Kristen Stewart.

According to The Guardian, Café Society, a period romantic comedy, will be screening out of competition. Still, it's an impressive feat. This will mark the third time that one of Allen's movies opens the prestigious festival after 2002's Hollywood Ending and his 2011 critical smash hit, Midnight in Paris.

Deadline reports that, in all, 12 of Allen's films have appeared on Cannes over the course of his career, starting with the 1979 classic Manhattan.

Café Society will follow Eisenberg, a screenwriter in 1930s Hollywood, who takes a new love affair with Stewart's character. Eisenberg's character "finds himself swept up in the vibrant café society that defined the spirit of the age."

This marks the third time Eisenberg and Stewart star in a film together after the coming-of-age comedy Adventureland and last year's American Ultra. Other big stars in the film include Blake Lively, Oscar nominee Steve Carell, Corey Stoll, Judy Davis and Parker Posey.

While this is the first time some of the actors appear in an Allen film, there are a few repeats: main actor Eisenberg already had a role in To Rome with Love (where Davis also co-starred), Stoll famously played Ernest Hemingway in Midnight in Paris and Posey had a role on last year's Irrational Man.

This also marks a new break on the filmmaker's career, as he didn't cast Emma Stone as his lead after having her in his two previous films, Magic in the Moonlight and the aforementioned Irrational Man.

So far there's no information for Café Society's release date on the USA, but it's scheduled to reach theaters in France on October 12, 2016.
