WGN America is just hours away from the an all-new episode of their new drama, Outsiders. In an exclusive interview with MStars News, actress Gillian Alexy talks about what G'Winn Farrell has in mind for the fight for power and control within the Farrell Clan.

As we previously mentioned, Outsiders takes place high in the vast Appalachian Mountains. The wild and criminal Farrell Clan is pitted against the outside world, which is even more corrupt than they are. The Farrell Clan have spent 200 years surviving on Shay Mountain. The Clan is up against a group of money-making investors and a small town looking to move them out as they expand. This close-knit family of anti-heroes has to protect themselves in order to preserve their way of life.

Before Tuesday's Episode of Day Most Blessed at 9pm on WGN America, the Outsiders actress discusses the inspiration behind her character, the love triangle between Little Foster (Ryan Hurst) and Asa (Joe Anderson), plus what she expects from G'Winn Farrell in the second season.

MStars News: When you first read the script, what similarities and differences did you find between yourself and G'Winn?

Gillian Alexy: Yeah she lives on a mountain! [Laughs] Showers and toilets, and stuff like that. There are differences in the way she lives her life. I think what I connected to in the character is her fierceness, her strength. She's going to fight for her family, her way of life no matter what. I definitely connected to that when I was reading the script.

MS: My favorite scenes on the show are the ones between you and Ryan Hurst. Tell me how you two developed the chemistry.

GA: Ryan has to be the most incredible human being I have ever met. He is a very generous actor. The minute we met, we kind of got off like alpha fire. We worked on a lot of our scenes. Our relationship was there on the page. We invested a lot on creating a bigger back-story. Filling in a lot of the blanks. As actors, that's kind of your job. It's great to do that together! Just a lot of emailing back and forth. I think that our relationship's history has come through our performances. It's great because it's all we can hope for!

MS: In a previous scene, Little Foster talks about G'Winn's miscarriage. You get an idea that they needed each other to bring G'Winn back up. Was that history there in the script? Or did you and Ryan discussed this beforehand?

GA: That was actually part of the collaboration between myself, Ryan, and the creator, Peter Mattei. It was exactly that. We have a history. We've been together for 8 or 9 years. When you have that shared event, it binds you up closer together. I think how stronger our relationship was, the more interesting the love triangle was going to be between me, Asa, and Little Foster. We batted back and forth between ideas; how we came together, what our loves were like. We discussed that and brought that onto the show after we started filming.

MS: I loved G'Winn's scene with Lady Ray before her shocking death's scene. Tell me about working with Phyllis Somerville on the scene, because there is a lot of foreshadowing.

GA: Well Phyllis is wonderful! She's a firecracker! She's a rebel woman! She's this skinny little thing but she has so much energy. She has this laugh that just resonates on set.I had a lot of fun with Phyllis. I loved doing scenes with her! I really liked that scene!

The respect I had as Gillian towards Phyllis, a veteran actress who has done a lot in this industry, is the same respect G'Winn has for Lady Ray. She's ever the wise one and knows a lot of things that can teach G'Winn. You bring a lot of those experiences and realities of me, Gillian, being on set, working with this woman I highly respect. I couldn't have asked for a better cast really! I knows it's kinda cheesy but it's really true!

MS: Tell me about the dynamics between Big Foster and G'Winn as their wedding approaches.

GA: G'Winn is fighting to maintain their way of life. One of the things she holds very strong, there is a way of doing things. Guns is not one of them. She sees herself as the moral compass of the tribe. She's been trying to get the guys, Asa and Little, to step up and do something about Big Foster. When that hasn't worked, she's had to put money where her mouth is and take responsibility. In a way, she's doing what she can to protect the tribe by keeping your friends close and your enemies closer.

When you spend a lot of time with someone, things can change and happen that affects your idea of them. At the moment, she has seen an opportunity to manage Big Foster. I think she believes if she gets close to him, maybe she can help and guide him to lead better. Or maybe she has other ideas. I don't know! [Laughs]

MS: Congrats on the show being renewed for Season 2!

GA: Thank you!

MS: What direction would you like to see G'Winn to take in Season 2?

GA: That's a great question! I think the writers are always surprising us. I always had this trust in them with coming up with great things! I would love to see more of G'Winn and her kind of truth. Not necessarily, telling others what to do. But like, getting her hands dirty, going out there, and riding the ATVs! Going into town! I think that would be fun! See more of how the woman operate on that mountain, using their fierceness and braveness as they survive their element, their role in that mountain.

Outsiders continues Tuesdays at 9pm on WGN America.
