Oscar Isaac is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood, fresh off his amazing 2015, which included one little movie called Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Months after playing Poe Dameron for the first time, Isaac is teaming up once again with 28 days Later screenwriter Alex Garland, who directed him in last year's Ex Machina, for another sci-fi flick, Annihilation.

According to Variety, Isaac just landed a deal with Paramount, the studio behind the film, to co-star in the sci-fi adaptation, which will be directed by Garland. Isaac happens to be the only man in the cast, joining Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson and fellow Star Wars alum Natalie Portman, who will be playing his wife.

Jeff VanderMeer, the author of the book the film will be based on, confirmed the casting news via Twitter.

The film, which will come out in 2017, will be based on VanderMeer's 2014 novel of the same name, which follows a team of four women (an anthropologist, a psychologist, a surveyor and a biologist) who have come to the mysterious Area X to map the terrain, a place that takes the life of anyone who visits. This marks the twelfth expedition of the area, and the women find surprises there while looking for answers regarding the disappearance of the Biologist's husband, played by Isaac.

Ever since starring as the title character in the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis in 2013, Isaac has grown to be one of the most interesting rising stars in Hollywood, taking on a variety of projects. Last year, he had roles in Star Wars and Ex Machina, and also starred in HBO's miniseries Show Me a Hero, for which he won a Golden Globe for.

This year, Isaac will be joining Fox's Marvel universe, playing title antagonistic mutant in X-Men: Apocalypse. He'll also star in the period drama The Promise opposite Christian Bale and Jean Reno.
