Last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens became the third highest-grossing film of all time, so it's safe to say that Lucasfilm's biggest franchise has been revived -- and one actor from the prequels could return! Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in George Lucas' highly-criticized prequels, is interested in reprising the role, even open for a trilogy!

McGregor, currently promoting his new film Miles Ahead, recently sat down with Collider to talk about the project and the rest of his career -- and a big part of that has been his stint as the Jedi master in the infamous prequels. Asked whether he'd be open to playing the character again in a stand-alone movie, the actor made it clear he thinks it's a story worth telling.

"I'd very much like to do [an Obi-Wan movie]. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there's a story there. I think that's the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one," McGregor told Steve Weintraub. "The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec [Guinness]'s Obi-Wan Kenobi because there's a -- I don't know how long he's in the desert there, but it's got to be twenty or thirty years."

So, sure, he'd be open to it, but will it happen? When asked if he'd met with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Turner or anyone involved in the new Star Wars movies, McGregor said he wasn't sure he was "at liberty to say," so he's either really discussed the possibility with execs or enjoys torturing fans a little bit.

While there has been a lot of criticism surrounding the movies, McGregor remains a beloved figure in them, and plenty of fans consider his portrayal of the Jedi master one the best things in the movies.

With a stand-alone Han Solo origin story in the works, it doesn't seem that unlikely that Disney is considering at least one film regarding Obi-Wan's many years on Tatooine looking after Luke Skywalker from a distance.
