Newcomer Daisy Ridley became an international star playing Rey in what became the third-highest-grossing film of all time, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Before the film's release, it appeared as if the studio had taken a big bet on the unknown young actress -- but her newly released audition tape shows casting her may have been its the easiest decision.

The impressive tape, along with a brief explanation of what the crew was looking for when casting Rey, was posted on the Star Wars franchise's Facebook account last Tuesday, and it has drawn 150,000 views there alone.

In the clip (surely just one of many auditions), Ridley cries on cue and expresses a lot of emotion while asking the person holding her to "get out of my head" -- a scene that would later happen with Adam Driver's Kylo Ren when he tried to use Jedi mind tricks to read her thoughts.

While the scene is pretty impressive in the final film, it's downright amazing to see Ridley's portrayal this raw, when she's in her everyday clothes sitting in a regular room. In all, there's little doubt as to why she was cast.

Ridley's audition tape is only part of the behind-the-scenes footage of Force Awakens being rolled out ahead of the film's home release April 1. As io9 Gizmodo points out, it's refreshing to see this kind of clip now, considering the studio was so secretive at the time of production.

As for Ridley, so far she hasn't landed any other major roles, but she is in talks to play Lara Croft in a reboot of Tomb Raider, taking the baton from Angelina Jolie .

The still-untitled Star Wars Episode 8 is shooting, and Ridley is reprising her role as Rey. The film will hit theaters Dec. 15, 2017.
