This year, one of the most iconic characters in film history will return to the big screen in a new major production, starring Alexander Skarsgard in the title role of Edgar Rice Burroughs' feral child and Margot Robbie as his wife, Jane Porter. David Yates, who directed The Legend of Tarzan, just made a very kinky revelation regarding one of the movie's love scenes.

Yates, no stranger to big films after directing the last four Harry Potter films and the upcoming spinoff, recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about tackling material as iconic as Tarzan, including why he cast Robbie in the role.

Describing the Wolf of Wall Street actress as practical, smart, resourceful and someone who can "take care of herself," the filmmaker revealed he directed her to channel that energy during a sex scene.

"They're doing this love scene together, and I said [to Robbie], 'Just slap Alex while you're making love, just kind of give him a punch,'" said Yates. "It was sort of an earthy, sensual moment of her enjoying sex with Alex, and the only bruise he picked up during the entire shoot was probably that punch from Margot. Which says a lot about her feistiness."

As Crushable reports, one of the reasons he cast Robbie is precisely that feistiness, as Yates didn't want the film to feel "archaic or dated" by having its female protagonist play a damsel in distress, forever being saved by the tough and protective guy.

Robbie is playing another tough character on the big screen this year, giving life to DC Comics villain Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, the first time the character has ever appeared in a live-action film. The 25-year-old Australian also had a role in the comedy/drama Whiskey Tango Foxtrot earlier this year.

The Legend of Tarzan, also starring Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and John Hurt, will come out in theaters on July 1st.
