Villanova has officially been named champion of the 2016 NCAA tournament, but it wouldn’t have been possible without a last second shot from forward Kris Jenkins. His buzzer-beating 3-pointer beat number one North Carolina and sent second-seeded Villanova to its first national championship in 31 years.

With time melting away in a tie game, Villanova guard Ryan Arcidiacono revealed that he heard only one voice at that moment and it was Jenkins', calling for the ball.

“I just heard Kris yelling, ‘Arch, Arch, I’m open,’” Arcidiacono said.

And with only 4.7 seconds left, the 22-year-old stayed calm, cool and collected to help his team beat the University of North Carolina with a 3-point buzzer beater in the National Championship game on April 4.

Afterwards, Jenkins insisted he was confident at making the shot. “Whenever I get the ball, I think that every shot is going in,” Kris told reporters after the game. “And this one was no different.”

He added, “I knew it was going in. My team mates set me up perfectly.”

Jenkins also revealed how the Wildcats had practiced the play numerous times over the past few seasons. Get the ball to Arcidiacono and let him make a decision.

“We put the ball in Ryan’s hands because we know he’s going to make the right decision,” Jenkins said. “He usually makes the shot but last night he made the pass.”

Although it was a team effort that they got the championship win, Jenkins specifically credits his mom for his skills.

"She started with me when I was young and she even coaches me on my shots still to this day," he shared, adding that she was "shocked" that he was left open to make the shot. We were both stunned at that."
