It's certainly been a week filled with deaths and cliffhangers. After The Walking Dead decided that they didn't want you to know which character gets killed off in the Season 6 finale, Arrow took the opposite direction by revealing who was in the grave all this time: Laurel Lance. In "Eleven Fifty-Nine," Katie Cassidy's character finally met her demise and exective producer Marc Guggenheim is prepared to defend the decision to kill Black Canary in the fourth season!

The Arrow EP recently spoke to ComicBook.com and several other outlets, where he revealed that anyone can get killed off in the CW series.

"Obviously Arrow is always a show that's evolving," Guggenheim said. "It's always a show where you know, every character arguably except for the Arrow is fair game."

The EP also admitted that it was a difficult decision to kill a major character off in Season 4.

"You know we started off this year with the promise of a death, and when we sort of worked our way through our various different creative choices," he said, adding that it eventually came down to the newly-minted Black Canary.

"We realized that you know, the thing that will give us the most pop going into the end of the season and into next season unfortunately would be Laurel," he said.

And yes, he knows you're not happy with their decision.

"We knew by the way, we knew that it would enrage a lot of people," Guggenheim confirmed.

Some fans have already begun speculating that Black Canary's death was Arrow's way of trying to do away with Oliver/Laurel shippers. Guggenheim was quick to point out that the character's demise had nothing to do with the show trying to get everyone on the Oliver/Felicity boat.

"We told that story," he said of Oliver's doomed romance with Laurel. "We never really thought about going back to it, so the shipping was not an element, it was not a factor for us, and we recognize that that upsets a lot of fans, particularly the comic books fans."

Guggenheim also stated that the decision to kill Laurel off was a "creative choice" for Arrow.

"It's never been just about one or two different particular fan bases," he said, adding that the decision will push Arrow's storyline further.

"We make the creative choices, you know, we feel benefit the show as a whole, and the story that we're telling overall," Guggenheim concluded.

Did you think it was a good decision to kill Laurel off? Let us know in the comments.
