Gotham S02E17: Into the Woods Robin Lord Taylor, Ben McKenzie Premiere Recap!

Fox continues Season 2 of the Batman prequel series, Gotham, with Wrath of the Villains. In episode 17, Into The Woods, can Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) handle Dr. Hugo Strange (BD Wong)?

Selina (Camren Bicondova) and Bruce (David Mazouz) are in the midst of a robbery. A gangster chases after them across the rooftops but manages to lose them. Bruce then throws the gangster's stolen money in the air, which makes Selina angry.

With Jim on the news as an escaped fugitive, Captain Barnes (Michael Chiklis) interrogates Bullock (Donal Logue) about where Gordon is hiding. Bullock claims he doesn't know but he is working with Gordon to find out who framed him.  

Though it's a long shot, Gordon believes there is a tape in Internal Affairs that could prove his innocence. As Bullock pimps himself out for info, Gordon gets the keys and enters the cage. Looking into his file, Gordon does find a tape but stops a robbery in progress. For helping someone out, Gordon gets spotted by a beat cop. 

At the church, Penguin grieves for the death of his father. Because she inherited the father's estate, Grace Van Dahl (Melinda Clarke) reveals she cannot let live Penguin with him. Grace wants to make Penguin as her servant; she'll kill him soon. 

Barbara (Erin Richards) recounts what she did in group therapy with Hugo Strange. She doesn't feel insane anymore, just sadness. Strange is so sure that it's an act; she's intriguing to him. While listening to the tape, they need someone to isolate the sounds. Gordon then asks Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) for his help. 

As Gordon thinks Nygma can clean up the audio, Penguin watches Grace and the Van Dahl family mock his cooking. The Van Dahl siblings then start picking on poor Penguin. While going over the tape, Nygma points out that Gordon is just as sick and diseased as the criminals. 

After the two hear a mechanical clock, Gordon points the gun at Nygma, realizing it was Edward,  and gets himself electrocuted. Nygma then shoots Gordon in the leg after he makes his escape. Gordon ends up hiding in the city after losing Nygma.

As Gordon stumbles on Selina and Bruce's hideout, Penguin finds the wine bottle with poison. After the dog gets sick, Penguin starts laughing, realizing his father was murdered. 

At the mansion, Alfred (Sean Pertwee) has stitched up with Gordon and offers his help. Strange knows with Barbara back in Gotham, it'll be interesting. Selina shows up at the precinct, snitches, and makes Nygma a nervous wreck. 

Out int he woods, Nygma digs up Kristen Kringle's dead body and points his gun at Gordon. After Nygma confesses, Barnes and Bullock show up to arrest him. 

With her children dead, Penguin confronts Grace and reveals she has been eating the. Penguin then stabs her to death. Elsewhere, Gordon isn't ready to come back to work. He has to solve Wayne's murder first.

Knowing Lucius has fixed his father's computer, Bruce has to give up Selina. With Nygma locked up in Arkham, Gordon calls Leslie but gets knock at the door from Barbara.
