Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe débuts in a few weeks with Captain America: Civil War, including two new additions to the Avengers cast -- but there's one superheroine that has been somewhat left out: Captain Marvel. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, recently revealed some exciting news regarding the Carol Danvers-centric film, plus more about the release of Inhumans.

Feige, like the rest of Marvel, is currently doing press rounds for Civil War, and that means he's sitting down with a lot of people to discuss what's next in the MCU. Among those was Haleigh Foutch from Collider, who asked about the status of the Inhumans movie, scheduled for 2019 at this point -- and whether the rumors of the film's cancellation were true, now that Agents of SHIELD is delving deeper into the subject.

For the Marvel boss, it seems the fact that the MCU already introduced the Inhumans isn't a problem, but Disney's other films might be. Since the announcement of the Phase 3 line-up, Marvel has added two more movies, Spider-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Disney's Lucasfilm confirmed Indiana Jones 5 --- so don't expect Inhumans to keep its release date.

Io9 Gizmodo also spoke to Feige, asking about one of the most awaited films in Phase 3: Captain Marvel, the superheroine also known as Carol Danvers. Of the Avengers heroes being introduced to the MCU within the next few years, she's the only one who hasn't been cast yet - but that's about to change.

"[You'll have] a filmmaker and cast by the summer," said Feige. "Maybe before. Maybe after. Filmmaker announcement first."

Seeing as there's no Disney D23 Expo this year, we could get at least a filmmaker announcement by San Diego Comic-Con, which is pretty exciting news. Captain Marvel will be the first female-centric film in the MCU, rivaling DC's Wonder Woman release next year.

The number of female heroes in the MCU isn't as big as their male counterparts (so far there are only two female Avengers), but the TV section of the company has introduced a myriad of great female characters, including Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones. Peggy Carter, Hayley Atwell's character introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger, has also turned to television since her on-screen début on Agent Carter.

Captain Marvel will hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
