Why are Netflix Characters Daredevil and Jessica Jones Not in 'Captain America: Civil War?''

It hasn't been exactly been uncommon for characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to crossover to TV. After all, Hailey Atwell's Peggy has gone on to star in Agent Carter while Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson is currently the lead in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But why haven't Charlie Cox's Daredevil and Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones made the move to the big screen in Captain America: Civil War? The MCU flick's writers Christoper Markus and Stephen McFeely have just confirmed that it would have been a great idea, but it just wasn't meant to be!

Markus and McFeely recently spoke to ComicBook.com, where they revealed why Daredevil and Jessica Jones are not in Civil War.

"When we were writing this, there weren't any Netflix characters," Markus admitted, sharing that Cox's Netflix show actually debuted long after they had finished the script.

"Daredevil came out right before we started shooting, so, frankly, no because we can't juggle that," he said.

In addition to Daredevil's bad timing, McFeely stated that they already had plenty of superheroes to work with in Civil War.

"We had as many characters as we could handle in the movie," he said. "You could tell - it works but it's close. It's busting at the seams."

But is it possible to add a couple more superheroes in the mix?

"If you had two more people who you had to give four beats to and give them an organic little arc, now you're at three hours," McFeely said, adding that he probably wouldn't want to sit through such a lengthy film.

"You're taxing my patience," he said.

This is probably why Avengers: Infinity War has been made into a two-part film. After all, while Civil War only has about a dozen superheroes to deal with, the epic ensemble movies will feature around 67 characters in the lineup. Hopefully, two of these individuals will be Daredevil and Jessica Jones.
