DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon 3 is scheduled to release on June 29, 2018.

The man-love-dragon movie series' director Dean DeBlois recently confirmed that upcoming animated film will have a sad ending.

In December 2010, DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg confirmed that there would be a third film in the series. Katzenberg was quoted by Empire as saying: "How To Train Your Dragon is, at least, three: maybe more, but we know there are at least three chapters to that story."

How to Train your Dragon follows the story of young Viking, Hiccup Haddock III, the son of the leader of the Viking island of Berk. Hiccup's life turns upside down when he befriends a rare dragon -- Night Fury.

After directing How to Train Your Dragon and How to Train Your Dragon 2, DeBlois will be returning to direct the final part in the trilogy. In an earlier interview with the Collider, the 45-year-old DeBlois stated that the Dragon 3 will focus on Hiccup's life as a mature Viking and how he tackles the day-to-day problems on his Viking island. The director further stated that, after the events shown in Dragon 2, Toothless and Hiccup have become the chief in their respective tribes and there are chances that to save their own kin, Toothless and Hiccup will part their ways at the end.

"We're gonna take the story to where the books begin, which is Hiccup as an adult reflecting back on a time where there were dragons, suggesting that the dragons will in some way go away. Why and could they come back and the mystery of what all that is will be saved for the actual story."

So, there are chances that at the end, we might have teary eyes after we see Toothless and Hiccup parting their ways for the greater good.
