Punisher Online Petition: Jon Bernthal/Frank Castle Netflix Spinoff After Daredevil Season 2?

A month after Jon Bernthal débuted as Frank Castle aka The Punisher in season 2 of Netflix's Daredevil, fans have caught up with his portrayal of the antihero -- and they definitely want to see more of him. After shaking up Hell's Kitchen with a series of gruesome murders, Frank Castle could be back by fan request -- thanks to an online petition!

A Florida man who goes by the name of Alex Rambo started a Change.org petition. Rambo addresses the Netflix and Marvel's Media Relations division regarding the return of Bernthal's antihero for a solo outing.

"I and many Marvel fans would love nothing more than to have a Jon Bernthal Punisher series on Netflix," the petition reads. "We as an audience have adored Jon in this role WAY further than you expected. You created him and now we feel you must continue to show how incredible he is/you are. We understand your time constraints and we understand the nature of Hollywood. All we ask is that you greenlight a Punisher series."

So far, the petition has reached over 10,300 signatures, and it's aiming to reach 15,000.

Online petitions directed at major studios (particularly Disney/Marvel) have a history of not working. Last month, a similar Disney-directed petition went viral, as it asked the studio to hire Oscar winner J.K. Simmons to reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man reboot -- something that was clearly out of the equation when the actor signed up to play James Gordon in Zack Snyder's competing franchise, Justice League.

Still, there might be hope for The Punisher, since there were rumors earlier this year that Netflix was planning a series focused on the character as played by Bernthal. If it were to happen, however, it might be in a while, with everything Netflix-Marvel is planning for the next two years: Luke Cage is premiering this year, and possibly Iron Fist and The Defenders, while the second season of Jessica Jones is still pending.
