It's been more than a year since Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy passed away, but the man who first brought Mr. Spock to life continues to be one of the most beloved actors in science fiction -- and there's a new documentary about him coming up. The actor's son, Adam Nimoy, directed a film called For the Love of Spock to honor his father, and the first trailer's out.

The film, which was made possible through a Kickstarter campaign last year, shows in its first teaser that it was a labor of love. Comprised of numerous interviews to people who have been involved with Star Trek for years (from Nimoy's co-star William Shatner to Zachary Quinto, the actor currently playing Mr. Spock on the big screen), the new trailer gives fans a glimpse into the loving words many people have for the late actor.

As Entertainment Weekly reports in its coverage of the upcoming film, For the Love of Spock (or rather, a version of the film) will see its big premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in the next few days, with two screenings scheduled during the New York event. The second screening will be followed by a discussion panel with Adam, Quinto, the documentary's producer David Zappone and film critic Scott Mantz.

"For The Love Of Spock celebrates the upcoming 50th Anniversary of Star Trek through a personal, intimate look at the life and career of Leonard Nimoy, and his alter-ego, Mr. Spock, as told by his son, Adam Nimoy," reads the documentary's synopsis.

The documentary is only one of many Star Trek-themed celebrations to honor the franchise's 50th anniversary. Aside from a Star Trek set of stamps on the USPS, this year also marks the third part of the recently rebooted franchise with Star Trek Beyond, and NBC is planning a new series set in its universe, with Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller as showrunner.
