Disney's Lucasfilm is planning a series of Star Wars spinoffs after the wild success of last year's The Force Awakens, and one of them is an origin story for Harrison Ford's Han Solo. Now that rumors say Alden Ehrenreich landed the role of the Millennium Falcon pilot, another competing actor, James Franco's brother Dave, tells his audition story!

Franco recently popped by CinemaCon to promote his latest film, the upcoming sequel Now You See Me 2, where he caught up with MTV. Of course, considering it's been months since it was announced he was in the running for the space renegade, the chance to ask him about playing Han Solo was just too precious -- and unsurprisingly enough, it seems there's a lot of secrecy surrounding the film's production.

"I went in one time for Jeanie McCarthy, who I've auditioned for a million times before, and we just had a really fun time together in the room," Franco told the outlet. "And then because of the nature of what it is, it just explodes everywhere. Everyone's coming up and being like, 'Dude what's going on?' and I'm like, 'I don't know, you know as much as me!'"

As Slash Film reports, Franco wasn't too clear on what directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord want from the actor who'll play Chewbacca's best friend: after Ford made the role his own nearly 40 years back, the directors could be looking for someone who does a great Harrison Ford ... or, just as easily, they could be looking for someone who makes the role entirely his own.

That appears to be the reason Disney has taken so long in casting the iconic role. Still, they're moving forward with the rest of the Star Wars universe, as this year another spinoff, Rogue One, comes out, followed next year by the still-untitled Episode 8, directed by Looper filmmaker Rian Johnson.
