They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. In Jon Snow (Kit Harington)'s case in the final scene of the Game of Thrones Season 5 finale last year, those eyes might be the key to the character's fatein the Season 6 premiere. That is, if you believe the show's executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who have explained how they made sure Jon's eyes made it clear that he is, without a shadow of a doubt, dead.

The Game of Thrones EPs recently spoke to Variety, where they discussed how they put plenty of thought (and effort) in the last moments of "Mother's Mercy," where Kit Harington's character is left dying in the snow as the camera zooms in.

"If you look at his eyes there, we spent a lot of time to make sure those pupils ... dilate," Benioff revealed.

"We spent good money on this," Weiss insisted.

Hold on, why do we care if Jon's pupils are dilated or not? Weiss offers the scientific explanation.

"Your pupillary muscles relax when your body gives up," he stated before being cut off by his fellow EP.

"Like your sphincter," Benioff said.

It certainly sounds like these guys did some research to make sure viewers see that Jon isn't getting back up anytime soon.

"It is called a pupillary sphincter, as a matter of fact," Weiss explained. "We looked this up on the Internets, and it said your pupillary sphincter relaxes and your eyes dilate, so if you look carefully, Jon's eye dilates."

All chuckles and butt jokes aside, fans have actually been studying the appearance of Jon's eyes in the ending of the Season 5 finale. One theory suggests that the character's eye color actually changed in the final second, although some believe that it was merely the light in the scene.

Game of Thrones Season 6 premieres on HBO on April 24.

Do you believe Jon Snow is deader than a Lord Commander murdered by the Night's Watch? Will he rise from the grave like an icy White Walker? Let us know in the comments.
