Katie Holmes wouldn’t miss her daughter Suri Cruise' 10th birthday and other occasions for anything. However, Tom Cruise has been absent from his daughter's life and it's not just because of his work schedule. Scientology expert Tony Ortega claims that his absence is a result of his loyalty to his controversial religion.

“If Tom was not famous, he would NOT be allowed to have any contact with Katie and Suri who would be considered a Potential Trouble Source, meaning that as long as she’s connected to her mom, she could present a problem,” Tony Ortega, who’s written about Scientology since 1995, told Hollywood Life. “She could hinder Tom’s spiritual growth in Scientology, which is by far the most important thing for a Scientologist.”

Ortega added that, “The Number one rule of Scientology: celebrities get to break all the rules. For that reason, it’s very hard to say whether David Miscavige (the leader of the Church of Scientology) and Tom Cruise consider Katie officially an SP (Suppressive Person) and Suri, by extension, PTS (Potential Trouble Source).”

According to In Touch magazine. the 53-year-old actor “is in the middle of filming The Mummy and couldn’t tear himself away,” a source tells the magazine, explaining why Cruise will be in Oxford, England by the time Suri celebrated her 10th birthday.

Holmes' “heart breaks for Suri,” the source told the mag. “[Tom’s] had plenty of chances to see Suri in the past,” the insider adds, noting that it’s been more than 900 days since Tom has seen Suri. However, Katie has been labeled as a “suppressive person” by the Church of Scientology, according to the report, and “the closeness to her daughter likely makes seeing them both off-limits to Tom.”

While Cruise is supposedly a deadbeat dad, Holmes wouldn’t trade being a mom for anything in the world. “[It] changes you completely in such amazing ways,” Holmes told Ocean Drive. “And I think that you become who you were meant to be. Being a parent also is a source of inspiration to just work really hard. You want to set an example and, you know, [your kids] are what drives you.”
