The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office has announced that it completed its autopsy on Prince at 2 p.m. ET and that results are pending and could "likely take weeks." It is now prepared to release the singer's body to his family.

Friday afternoon press release on the sudden death of Prince on Thursday left many questions about the iconic singer songwriter’s final moments, leaving the world to wonder what ended the legend’s life.

As millions mourn Thursday's loss of legendary musician Prince, authorities and journalists are investigating the 57-year-old's cause of death.

"As part of a complete exam, relevant information regarding Mr. Nelson’s medical and social history will be gathered. Anything which could be relevant to the investigation will be taken into consideration," the medical examiner's office said earlier.

As was widely reported, Prince had to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois, on Friday, April 15. At the time, he was described as having suffered from the flu for "a number of weeks."

However, TMZ released another report saying that the reason for the landing was because Prince had “OD’d on Percocet” and “ingested so much” that EMTs were forced to dispense a “save shot.”

"We are not saying Percocet is what caused his death. What the medical examiner and other authorities are doing in Minnesota right now is they're trying to piece things together. That is something we know they're interested in," TMZ's Harvey Levin said in a video on Friday.

Levin also referred to a photograph of Prince taken in a Walgreens parking lot on Wednesday night, hours before his death on Thursday.

"We are told by witnesses that he was sweating and pacing, waiting for someone to bring a prescription out. He had been there four times in the last few days," he said.

With the results of the toxicology report weeks away, there’s no way to know what stole Prince’s life in the end.
