Game of Thrones certainly boasts of an impressive ensemble cast that are constantly jockeying for a tiny subplot in the main storyline, so it's not difficult to understand why certain people have somehow been written off from the HBO series. There are those who were sent to row a boat to nowhere like Gendry, or like Rickon Stark (Art Parkinson), who was simply sent away by his brother for safety. But are all of these characters dead or will they ever return in the show?

With the premiere of Season 6 looming in the horizon, here are 5 Game of Thrones characters that should (and could) make a comeback in the series.

Rickon Stark

Poor Rickon. The only people who know he is still alive are either training to be a greenseer in the Three-Eyed Raven's cave or jumping from the walls of Winterfell to escape Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). But did the youngest Stark actually make it to the Umbers? And will he ever be reunited with his siblings? There are speculations that the Umbers are expected to join the huge battle that aims to overthrow the Boltons from Winterfell, so if Rickon is with them, there is a possibility that he might finally see Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) again this season.

Gendry

The only living bastard son of Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) was last seen being sent away by Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) to escape Stannis' (Stephen Dillane) evil plan, and some say that he is still rowing that boat to this day. Or is he? Surely, the producers had better plans for a character that was created solely for the show and built up early on in the first three seasons. After all, he DOES have a claim to the Iron Throne now that the other Baratheons are gone and everyone pretty much knows that Tommen isn't Robert's son. But will Gendry (and his well-toned arms and pecs) finally row his way back to Westeros? Hopefully, he will finally return in Season 6.

Nymeria (the direwolf, not the Sand Snake)

Remember in the first season when Arya Stark's (Maisie Williams) direwolf attacked Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) and was sent away by her mistress? Although the show seems to have forgotten about Nymeria, she still plays a huge part in the books, as Arya discovers that she can see through the direwolf's eyes. With Arya having lost her eyesight in the last season, there is a possibility that she might discover the ability to warg and discover what happened to her beloved Nymeria.

Thoros of Myr

Like George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones certainly has a way of introducing new characters who can offer infinite possibilities to the storyline then simply snatch them away just when things get interesting. Such is the fate of the Red Priest, who revealed to Arya and the Hound that it is possible to resurrect the dead without the help of the White Walkers. But is it possible that Thoros will make a comeback in Season 6? Some fans believe it is high time for Lady Stoneheart to enter the storyline, and since Thoros is the one who resurrected Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), he is expected to accompany her as she lays waste to the Boltons (wishful thinking, but we are not the only ones hoping this would happen, admit it).

Benjen Stark

The return of Uncle Benjen was teased upon in the Season 5 finale, when Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was lured out of Castle Black by stab-happy members of the Night's Watch. But seriously, is Benjen ever coming back? He has to. After all, he promised to tell Jon everything he knows once he gets back from his MacGuffin mission that sent him away from the Wall (and the GoT storyline). But then again, Jon has a bad history with Starks promising to talk when they get back, since they usually get beheaded or murdered at a wedding. Hopefully, Uncle Benjen managed to keep his head, avoid the Freys and will finally return to Castle Black. Just don't tell him that Jon is dead.

Which of these characters do you think will return in Game of Thrones Season 6? Let us know in the comments.
