We always knew that Melisandre is hiding something. In the premiere episode of Game of Thrones Season 6, Carice van Houten's character finally revealed her secret: Her youthful appearance is all just a glamour spell and that "The Red Woman" is actually a hideous old crone. Did Stannis Baratheon just know how old is the Red Priestess?

The truth may have been revealed by a former Game of Thrones star back in 2013. Oliver Ford Davies, who had played Stannis Baratheon's (Stephen Dillane) Maester on the HBO show, had previously spoken about why Melisandre survived an attempted poisoning in Season 2.

In an interview with Flicks and the City (via ComicBook.com), Davies admitted that he had asked van Houten why the Red Priestess was not affected by the poisoned wine that she and Maester Cressen had both drank. Surprisingly, the actress had shared that her character is actually 400 years old!

"Lesson learned: If you're trying to poison someone, check first that they're not four hundred years old," Davies joked.

So does this mean that Melisandre is more powerful than initially expected? Sure, the last moments of "The Red Woman" confirmed that she is older than anyone expected and Davies' interview revealed that she is immune to poison. But does it also imply that she is capable of greater magic like resurrecting the dead?

Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) had already suggested that Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) allies will be need her help. There is a huge possibility that fans were right all along. Melisandre might bring back the dead Lord Commander.

The revelation of Melisandre's true face (and age) wasn't the only shocker in the first episode of Game of Thrones Season 6. "The Red Woman" also saw the murder of Doran Martell (Alexander Siddig), his son Trystane (Toby Sebastian) and his loyal guard Areo Hotah (DeObia Oparei) by the hand of Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma) and her Sand Snakes. The death of the characters once again proves that no one is safe in the show.

The sixth season of Game of Thrones airs on HBO every Sunday nights.
