The first episode of Game of Thrones Season 6 has confirmed what everyone has suspected since last year: Jon Snow is definitely dead. In "The Red Woman," Kit Harington returns as a corpse that is discovered by Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) and things get tense in Castle Black. But will Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale) finally become Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, or is somebody else expected to take over Castle Black after Jon's death?

The episode begins with the discovery of Jon's corpse while an agitated Ghost tries helplessly to get to his master. Once Jon is taken inside, Dolorous Edd (Ben Crompton) declares that it was Thorne who masterminded the murder. Although Thorne admits that he was behind Jon's murder, he also announces that his loyalty remains with the Night's Watch and had only committed the crime because Jon decided to let the wildlings enter Castle Black.

The Night's Watch is now divided between Edd's friends and Thorne's supporters, who are significantly more than Jon's allies. Nevertheless, Edd wants to avenge Jon's death, even if it meant he would get killed in the process. However, Davos advises him against it, stating that they would have better chances at defeating Thorne if they get help from the wildlings.

But what happens now in Castle Black? Davos had suggested that Edd will need Melisandre's (Carice van Houten) help. Why? Because she might be able to bring Jon back to life, right? The Red Priestess had claimed that she had seen Jon in the fire, where he was fighting in Winterfell, despite the fact that he is now a corpse. There is still a huge possibility that Jon will still come back to life to defend his friends in Castle Black, reclaim his title as Lord Commander, and win back Winterfell from the Boltons.

And speaking of the Boltons, the promo for the second Game of Thrones Season 6 episode has already hinted on their possible attack on Castle Black in their search for Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner). It looks like the Night's Watch may have other things to worry about than just fighting over who will be the new Lord Commander.

Game of Thrones Season 6 airs on HBO every Sunday nights.
