Production for Netflix's adaptation of Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events books has begun in Vancouver, and people around the Canadian city are already getting the first bits, starting with the series' most famous cast member. Neil Patrick Harris, who will be playing the villain chasing the Baudelaires, is now on set -- and so far, his Count Olaf is spot-on!

Local Vancouver outlet Van City Buzz published the first snaps from the series' production at the city's downtown area. It appears the first scene the How I Met Your Mother actor shot as Count Olaf had the villain exiting a car and entering a building to purchase a disguise.

The character is a master of disguise, often changing his looks through elaborate costumes that Baudelaire orphans Violet, Klaus and Sunny can see right through, though nobody else can. It seems appropriate that NPH's first scene shot (at least publicly) involves purchasing a disguise.

In the early days of April, Harris took to Twitter to share he'd be starting production for the Netflix series soon, showing a picture of his fingernails, which he can't cut right now because the character's described as having them long in the books.

Of course, this is the second time A Series of Unfortunate Events is adapted: before the book saga had been published in its entirety, there was a 2004 film starring Jim Carrey in the role of villainous Olaf, plus other big names like Jude Law, Timothy Spall, Craig Ferguson and even Kramer v Kramer screen legends Meryl Streep and Dustin Hoffman.

This time around, Netflix is doing a miniseries based on the 13 books published by Daniel Handler. The cast this time around includes Patrick Warburton as narrating author Snicket, Usman Ally as the Hook-Handed Man, and Aasif Mandvi as Uncle Monty.

The children's roles will be played by little-known actors: Louis Hynes will be Klaus Baudelaire and Malina Weissman will be Violet. There's no word on who will play Sunny, the youngest of the Baudelaire orphans.

Netflix hasn't announced a premiere date for A Series of Unfortunate Events yet.
