Captain America: Civil War is a milestone in superhero movies not only for bringing a beloved arc to life, but also because the cast includes a new iteration of Spider-Man, a character owned by Sony -- but will Spidey join other cinematic universes? Deadpool director Tim Miller talks about the chances of seeing Ryan Reynolds and Tom Holland sharing the screen.

Miller and Deadpool producer Simon Kinberg recently sat down with Comic Book Resources, and after the success of their own superhero film and the growing Fox and Marvel cinematic universes, obviously questions of crossovers were thrown around -- but it seems it could be many years until an arrangement is reached at all, and it would require a "Godfather-style dinner where we could broker a deal."

"We would love it, and we certainly each have a really good relationship with [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige," Kinberg said. "I honestly can say, as an adult who works in this industry, you certainly can see all the reasons why it doesn't happen. The corporate inertia, just the lawyering of that deal alone is so daunting that I don't think anybody would seriously consider it."

It took Sony and Marvel Studios years to actually settle on a way to include Spider-Man in the larger MCU, and Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo told Collider earlier this year that, by the time the script for the film was done, the character was such an important part of the story it would have been nearly impossible to make the film without it.

The first rumors of Spider-Man joining the MCU came in the late months of 2014, when Sony Pictures had a major leak that ended up making a lot of their company emails available to the general public, and that included the workings of a deal between the studio and Disney's Marvel.

In any case, so far, it seems Sony lending Spidey will remain a stand-alone case of studios working together, and the roles of Deadpool and Spider-Man could have been recast by the time it happens, if it does at all.
