There is little doubt that Tony Stark is the one who gets Spider-Man to join Team Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War. After all, the trailer has already shown how Tony orders the webslinger to snatch Chris Evans' shield away from The First Avenger. So it's only mildly surprising that Robert Downey Jr. has been confirmed to join Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but will Michael Keaton still play the villain in the reboot?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Downey will reprise his role as the brilliantly snarky Iron Man in Homecoming. The report reveals that a separate negotiation was made between Sony and Marvel so that the actor can appear in Holland's solo outing. The deal is not part of Downey's contract with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which already calls for the Sherlock Holmes star to portray Iron Man in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War films.

There have already been speculations that Downey will be in Homecoming, since Tony is responsible for bringing Peter Parker into Civil War (again, just check the trailer). There is a possibility that the character will have a pivotal role in the reboot for providing the webslinger with a special new suit courtesy of Stark Industries.

In addition to Iron Man, Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige has also hinted that there is a possibility that more MCU characters will cameo in the new Spider-Man flick. Will Captain America pop in to offer Holland's Peter some advice?

But will Keaton still play the villain in Homecoming? Although it was previously reported that the Birdman star is in negotiations to be the major baddie in Holland's movie, it is believed that a deal did not push through.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be directed by Jon Watts and is scheduled for release in July 2017.
