Daniel Radcliffe Returns as Harry Potter? The Boy Who Lived Could Do a Han Solo!

This year, the Harry Potter franchise is rising back up: Fans will have a London West End play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and a movie prequel of sorts set in the same universe, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Still, the man we know as the Boy Who Lived, Daniel Radcliffe, isn't involved in any of the projects -- but will he return eventually?

Speaking to Radio Times last Tuesday, the actor, who grew up before the world's eyes playing the boy wizard for a full decade, revealed he wouldn't rule out the idea of stepping astride Harry's broomstick once more, but a few conditions would have to be met.

"It would depend on the script," Radcliffe said. "The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo and look what happened there! So I am saying, 'No,' for now but leaving room to backtrack in the future."

Of course, when Ford came back to the role of Han Solo for last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the character ended up getting killed off, so it might not be that great example to follow. It would certainly be tough to see the Harry many of us grew up with getting killed off on screen at some point, so the idea of him coming back for that doesn't seem very enticing.

But hey, if he's going to live to tell the tale, count us in!

In any case, in canon, Harry is now older than Radcliffe. As it was revealed on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry was born in 1980, a full 9 years before Radcliffe -- and by the time the epilogue in the last book/movie, it had been 19 years since the events. The play that's currently in previews in London's West End, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, features Harry as a middle-aged man, and the actor originating the role, Jamie Parker, is 46, born in 1979.

Perhaps in 20 more years we could see Radcliffe reprising his role as Harry Potter in a big screen adaptation of the play?

In the years since the eight-part movie series ended, Radcliffe has mostly chosen roles in smaller, independent films, including some really interesting choices like the romantic comedy What If, the fantasy thriller Horns and, most recently, the Sundance Film Festival film Swiss Army Man.
