Tom Holland's 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Selfie Proves 'Civil War' Actor is the Best Web Slinger

As anyone who has watched the first Spider-Man movie trilogy knows, Peter Parker makes a living selling snaps of himself to New York City tabloid The Daily Bugle, keeping his superhero identity a secret. Fresh off his début as the web slinger in Captain America: Civil War, British actor Tom Holland just honored his role on Instagram -- by posting a selfie from Spider-Man: Homecoming!

A few days back, the 20-year-old actor took to Instagram to share a fun selfie from the shoot. In it, the star, wearing full costume as the web slinger, is doing the iconic hand gesture devised to shoot out Spidey's web, seemingly atop a contraption, with some crewmembers staring up to be part of the picture.

According to Comic Book, there's more than meets the eye with the pic: Holland might have just revealed the most recent additions to his Spider-Man costume. More specifically, the snap shows Spidey's new webshooters, as the new version stays true to the comics and has Peter Parker creating his own spider web technology.

In the first trilogy, the spider that bit Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker caused his body to create webs itself, changing it up from canon: in the comics, Peter creates a mechanical device and his own web. The Andrew Garfield-starring films went back to basics, and it's great to see that Holland's iteration of the character stays true to form.

During Captain America: Civil War, Spidey's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) met up with the teenage superhero and added the Iron Man touch to his costume, tweaking it to improvement -- and much as he has done with his own suits as well as those of the other Avengers, it seems more than likely that Stark has been doing the same for Spidey, particularly considering the billionaire will also be part of Homecoming.

Returning from Civil War are Holland, Downey and Marisa Tomei, who'll reprise her role as Aunt May. New additions to the huge cast of Homecoming include Academy Award nominee Michael Keaton in an unspecified villain role, Disney Channel actress Zendaya, Community alum Donald Glover, comedian Hannibal Buress and Orange is the New Black actress Selenis Leyva.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
