Season 4 of Switched at Birth has left the followers of the teen family drama hanging as it was ended on October 26, 2015 with a phone call for both of the main characters, Daphne Vasquez (Katie Leclerc) and Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano) to go home because of an Emergency.

In season 4's ending, Bay and Daphne have settled in China for ten months when Bay received the phone call that urged them to go home.

The First episode of its season finale was titled "The Call". There are two probable reasons for that call. One is that of John's illness which may have became worst because of stress brought by the divorce. John has found out in Season 4 of his terminal illness. The second reason may be because of Kathryn wanting to talk to Daphne personally regarding her divorce to John. It was known in their previous season that the couple has marital issues.

The 10-episode season finale is said to be very emotional as it tackles John's illness and his divorce to Kathryn. Titles were already out pointing to a possible death of a main character which would probably be John because of his illness, as per Game N Guide.

There will also be a newcomer to the series. Michael Galante will play the role of Luca, Regina's (Constance Marie) young boyfriend. The girls were shocked when they learned about this.

The TV series will also have their 100th episode on this season and was said to end on episode 103 with a special 90-minute episode as its conclusion, according to TVLine.

On October 21, 2015, Freeform TV channel has announced that a fifth season will be up for the series. It was announced by the series creator Lizzy Weiss on March 12, 2016, through Twitter, that this will be the shows last season.

The season finale will start airing on January 24, 2017 on Freeform.
