The 1998 Disney animated movie "Mulan" finally has a green light for a live-action film. After the success of other Disney films such as "The Jungle Book", "Cinderella" and "Maleficent", the famous animation studio gave a thumbs-up for "Mulan" to come on screen in live-action.

Disney's "Mulan" was based on a popular Chinese ballad of Hua Mulan. In Disney's animated film, Mulan is a young woman who disguised herself as a man and joined the Chinese army in place of her old father. With the help of her ancestor's dragon, Mushu, she became a skilled warrior and was later hailed as one of the great warriors of China. A global casting will be launched by Disney in search of Chinese actress to play the part of Mulan.

The announcement of the live-action film happened on Tuesday, according to a report by Hollywood Reporter. The writers of "Jurassic World", Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, was announced by the studio to rewrite the spec script that Disney purchased in 2015 for the live-action film. The live-action movie will be re-written as a combination of the 2015 spec and the Chinese ballad. Jaffa and Silver are also currently working for a sequel of "Avatar".

The movie is slated to hit the big screen on November 2, 2018 and currently, the studio is preparing for the release of "Beauty and the Beast" in March 17 of next year, as reported by Time. "Beauty and the Beast" will also be in live action and will star Emma Watson. Disney is expecting the movie to be one of the highest grossing titles of the year.

There has been no announcement yet of who will direct "Mulan" on the other hand, Jason Reed, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner will produce it. It was further announced that "Mulan" will be released in 3D.
