Season 2 of CBS' "Madam Secretary" left us hanging with a question whether or not Madam Secretary will become the new Vice President and the show will have to change its name. The Season 3 premiere of the show aired on Sunday with 9.4 million total viewers. It answered the question right away of whether Madam Secretary will be the new Veep.

In the premiere episode of the show's third season, Dalton loses the campaign to his rival Evans which means that he could lose his party's nomination. Russell, angrily turns to Elizabeth saying "This is all your fault." Then we flash back to months earlier when Elizabeth privately accepted Dalton's offer to be his running mate in the upcoming elections. Her husband Henry, though not very happy about missing work for the campaign, gave his support along with the rest of the family.

In a synopsis given by TV Guide, Elizabeth asked President Dalton to risk change in an election year after a storm destroys a naval base in Bahrain, prompting the secretary of state to urge the commander-in-chief to reexamine his approach to climate change and his overall foreign policy. After the debate, Dalton's supporters switched to his rival.

As recapped by TV Line, Dalton focuses on his remaining seven month in office after he loses and Elizabeth was offered by Evans to remain the country's Secretary of State during his administration which prompted her to advice Dalton to run as independent and not endorse Evans. A crazy idea hit them that Dalton might just win if he can "secure a popular Pennsylvania senator as his running mate", which means that Elizabeth will no longer run for VP but might just remain as Dalton's Madam Secretary when he secures the oval office once more.

On the other hand, the McCords learned that Jason's computer has been hacked. Later, Elizabeth and Henry learned that their kids have been stalked.

As reported by TV Guide, episode 2 will be aired on October 16 and titled "The Linchin" where Elizabeth cautiously negotiates a regime change in Algeria but her plans fall apart when a trusted U.S. Ambassador of North Africa unexpectedly dies.

Episode 3, "South China Sea" will be aired on October 23, where Elizabeth finds herself in a stalemate with the Chinese foreign minister as she lobbies for the release of environmental activists who were arrested for spying in China.
