"Luke Cage" is the latest superhero from Marvel Comics that has been adapted to web television. The series was released on Netflix in September 30, 2016. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a fictional universe centered on superheroes.

His first appearance in comics was in the 1970s and was first created to exploit Blaxploitation films 40 years ago, according to a report by Screen Rant. In the recent adaptation, however, he first appeared in the NetFlix series "Jessica Jones" starred by Krysten Ritter.

Mike Colter is the new addition of actors to play superhero being Luke Cage. He played Jessica Jones' husband in the NetFlix series of the same name and a member of the Avengers.

Luke Cage's original name was Carl Lucas. He was imprisoned for a crime that he did not commit and was beaten inside prison. He was a subject of an experiment gone wrong which gave him superhuman strength and invulnerability. This gives him his ticket out from prison.

He changed his name to Luke Cage, hoping to rebuild his life. Armed with his super strength and indestructible skin, he becomes a superhero for Harlem, who opposes gun violence.

"Luke Cage" for NetFlix was created by Cheo Hodari Coker a former music journalist. Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge were hired to compose the score for "Luke Cage."

The 90's hip-hop genre was bursting and can be seen everywhere in the series. On a report by Fact Mag, the 90's represent a flashpoint in hip-hop history for Coker. It was in the mid 90's where gun violence was rampant because of unregulated access to firearms. It was further reported that "Coker's Harlem is likewise a stage to give voice to everyday Black folk in America".

Coker's "Luke Cage" also implores to empower women. The series sets the women in the fore to correct the "historic erasure of Black women." The women in the series were invested to the betterment of the community with or without the help of a man, said the report.

Other actors included in the series were Mahershala Ali as Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes, Simone Missick as Mercedes "Misty" Knights, Theo Rossi as Hernan "Shades" Alvarez, Erik LaRay Harvey as Willis Stryker/Diamondback, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard. Colter, Ali, Missick and Woodard were praised for their performance.
