Presenting the new MacBook Pro series minus the staple SD card slot. A lot of complaints from MacBook Pro users came in after they found out that their precious SD card slot was missing from Apple's laptop flagship model. And aside from the SD card slot, the Escape and Function keys were also removed. To appease users, Apple Senior VP Phil Schiller gave his explanation as to why they decided to remove these features.

Engadget reported Schiller's remarks about why they had to remove the slot. Schiller mentioned that the SD card slot was "cumbersome" because the SD card juts out from the slot when in use. The Apple executive said that the slot actually forces users with high-end cameras to use an external card reader. Cameras these days are built with wireless transfer features so there is no use for SD cards.

The report further mentioned that there will surely be numerous disagreements from users and potential users of the new MacBook Pro. First, an SD card jutting out of a laptop may not really be a nuisance at all. Second, definitely newer cameras offer Wi-Fi connectivity but not all models have this. And finally, a user does not have to purchase a new camera just to complement his new MacBook Pro.

Slashdot also reported Schiller's response to the missing SD card slot; the executive concluded his explanation by saying that users have a choice to connect to the MacBook Pro. Schiller said that they could either connect via a physical adaptor or through wireless transfer.

The Apple tech site also mentioned that aside from the missing slot, users were also upset that they can't get more than 16GB of RAM. Some were also outraged with the laptop's steep price.

The build-to-order 13-inch MacBook Pro with 2.9GHz Retina 8GB/256GB SSD is available at $1799 while the 13-inch 2.9GHz Retina 8GB/512GB SSD is available at $1999.
