Producer Andrew Form announces that a third film would be very unlikely for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Paramount Pictures might be done working with this current iteration of the Turtles, citing the underwhelming reception of the second movie.

The experience was not all negative, though. In a recent interview with Collider for the movie Ouija: Origin of Evil, Form and co-producer Brad Fuller expressed that although they were not able to put a finger on the exact reason why the movie flopped, they did learn a lot from it. Form goes on saying that while they were very confident about the project, which was fast-tracked due to the success of the first TMNT, they were surprised that the sequel was not able to find its audience. And while having iconic characters from the original tv show added to the roster, like Beebop, Rocksteady and Casey Jones, surely puts the nostalgia factor up a notch, they figured out that audiences need something that is really new and fresh.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, which came out on June 3rd 2016, it earned $35.3 million during its opening weekend, and grossed only around $200 million. This is significantly less than half of what the first TMNT movie reboot made, which is $493 million, based on Movie Web's report. The numbers itself are good enough reason for the production outfit to shelve any plans for a third movie, as the production outfit has been suffering from box office flops, like Ben-Hur and the recent Star Trek Beyond, and is still looking for another franchise that could meet the financial success of the Transformers line.

This does not mean that the doors are entirely closed for Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo, however.  According to Form, "I don't think there's Turtles 3, but I wouldn't say there's never going to be another Turtles movie."
