After nearly 10 years resulting from development and delays, "The Last Guardian" is finally coming out on December 6 as a PS4-exclusive game. The game is the third installment after "ICO" and "Shadow of the Colossus" created by Fumito Ueda.

The development of "The Last Guardian" apparently started in 2007 with the intention of releasing it in 2011 after it was revealed in 2009, The Verge reports. The game was an anticipated follow up after the first two games but delays, new platforms, and studios forced it to be set back to nearly a decade.

However, despite this "The Last Guardian" still retains its core idea and story similar to what Ueda originally envisioned nine years earlier. The game is a story of a lost boy who befriends a mysterious creature as they go through a treacherous journey in an unknown land.

"The Last Guardian" Has Higher Level of Visual Storytelling on PS4

Ueda shares to Mashable that upgrading to PS4 as a platform and upgrading the game has been some of the biggest challenges for "The Last Guardian." However, they were able to reap some benefits as they were able to project a higher visual way of telling the story through better expression.

The game creator added that the results they saw when they transitioned to PS4 as a platform made the delays more worth it. Furthermore, Sony has confirmed that "The Last Guardian" will have non-native 4K support for those who want to play the game at a higher frame rate and clarity.

Sony has released a 30-second gameplay trailer for "The Last Guardian" and it appears to center around the unnamed child protagonist, some enemies and a short overview of the game. Watch it below:
