Singer/actress Zendaya has denied rumors that she will be playing as the love interest of Tom Holland's Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-man: Homecoming movie. While rumors have been circulating about the character she is playing for the film, the young actress is quick to douse the flames.

In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 20-year old explains that her character is "not romantic". She further describes Michelle (the role she plays as in the movie) as the dry, awkward and intelligent type, the kind that is not interested to talk to people. Zandaya also adds that she finds the character cool, as she comes off as deep and always has something on her mind. While fans are quick to think that "Michelle" may just be a place holder for Mary Jane, her description of the character does not fit any incarnation of Spidey's future wife.

If her character would not be the partner of Peter Parker, who would? According to LRM, another character from the Spider-Man lore will be fleshed out to take the part. Liz Allen, to be played by Laura Harrier, will potentially be Spidey's love interest in this movie.

Allen, based on the original Spider-Man comics, is a popular girl in school that Parker has a thing for. Unfortunately for him, she was going out with Flash Thompson, played by Tony Revolori. Peter gets a chance to become Liz's tutor, and, in true comic book fashion, she falls for the web-slinger. The two turned into a couple, Liz dumping Flash and her "cool kid" friends in the process.

This is certainly an interesting route director Jon Watts is taking for the film; ditching the popular Spidey loves Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy in favor of someone most fans are not familiar with. And with news that Michael Keaton will be joining the film as the villain Vulture, this reboot from Sony and Marvel is definitely turning out to be a very interesting movie.

Spider-man: Homecoming will be swinging to theatres in July 7, 2017.
