Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas or Jaime Luis Gomez in real life has survived testicular cancer. The 41-year old has shared that he found out that he had cancer after visiting the emergency room for flu-like symptoms like pain in his back and abdomen.

Testicular Cancer Diagnosis & Surgery

The former Black Eyed Peas member shared to PEOPLE that he was diagnosed with stage 2 testicular cancer in June 2014 after what he thought was a routine checkup. Taboo recalled that he was scheduled for surgery on the next day to have his right testicle removed.

All of Taboo's bandmates were shocked upon hearing the news but gave their wholehearted support. Will.i.am offered assistance by recommending a physician after it was revealed that quick action must be undertaken in order to beat the cancer.

To win the race against time, Taboo had to undergo over 12 weeks of "intense" chemotherapy. He described his course of chemo as "war, torture and a nightmare" combined.

Apart from going through physical anguish from the chemotherapy, Taboo also shared that he was mortified about his wife and children and the thought of not surviving his battle against cancer.

Taboo's Life After Cancer

Daily Mail noted that Taboo was given a clean bill of health on September 2014. Since then, he and his wife, Jaymie Dizon, had another child. While patients undergoing chemotherapy lessen their chance of having children, Taboo and his wife went to a fertility doctor where they were told it would be impossible to conceive. However, within the same month and after trying the couple was blessed with a daughter after nine months.

While Black Eyed Peas is no longer together, Taboo remains in the music scene. His song "Fight" in collaboration with the new campaign called The Fight by the American Cancer Society was recently released exclusively on the show "The Doctors."
