Disney is said to change 'Moana's' title to 'Mighty Maui', it is because the movie is said to focus on The Rock's character instead of Moana.

It is obvious that the Walt Disney Animation is very particular with its finished products before it arrive the big screen. According to Cinema Blend, Disney cares first more about the similarity of the original concept of the movie.

Furthermore, Disney unveils three major parts of its process at the studio. First is building up the story or idea, second, tearing it all down and third is repeating both steps several times until it is ready for the big screen.

However, Disney finds 'Moana' was able to pass the process until for the last minute. It is for the reason of an eye-opening research trip wherein both the directors John Musker and Ron Clements went on.

'Moana' will be changed to a title 'Mighty Maui' giving focus on The Rock's character in the story. It was because according to the two directors went on to the island and got inspired by a mythology and Maui's character.

As per Elite Daily, Maui is the demigod which has been a legendary figure in Polynesian culture for centuries. He's a half-human; half-god entity, which is featured by Dwayne Johnson in the movie. And for the Hawaiian myth, Maui is a mischievous hero who then brought fire to the humans and thus created the Hawaiian Islands.

Additionally, some Polynesian might also feel that the Disney version of Maui shows some disrespectful to Maui's real cultural history. It is because, the cartoon version shows Maui to be physically obese, perpetuating a harmful stereotype Americans.

Meanwhile, the two movie directors stated that the first version of the story would be for 'Mighty Maui.' They further said that it will be a Maui-centric story based on two or even three Maui myths.

And instead of developing a story where Maui is a side character to Moana, the story would now focus on The Rock's character featuring the history of navigation giving importance to the Oceanic region.
