Apple Battery Replacement: Is Your iPhone 6S Having Shutdown Problems?

Some iPhone 6S models are reportedly having shutdown problems where they unexpectedly turn off on their own. Apple has issued a battery replacement program where owners of affected handsets will receive fresh new batteries.

According to The Verge, the iPhone 6S models that are affected by the shutdown issues were produced from September to October 2015. Apple has acknowledged that the affected devices affected during that time were only small in number. The repair program is open to all affected batteries worldwide three years after the first batch of iPhone 6S handsets were sold.

iPhone 6S owners who believe that their handset is having shutdown problems should have their devices checked in an Apple Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider. Devices with damaged screens and more may need to have them fixed first before getting replacement batteries.

When customers are sure they are eligible for battery replacement, they are advised to backup all data to iCloud or iTune, remove all data and settings and even turn off Find my iPhone feature. Eligible iPhone 6S owners who had to pay out of pocket for battery replacement may contact Apple to get a refund as well.

Apple Insider notes that the launching iPhone 6S battery replacement program is caused after the China Consumers Association asked the company to look into several consumers who have complained of unexplainable iPhone 6S shutdowns.

The iPhone 6S repair is the second program that Apple has launched in a space of few days. The company initiated a and iPhone 6S Plus repair program for affected devices with "touch disease" on their screens. This is an issue where the device is unusable because of multitouch issues that cause a gray bar to appear at the top of the screen.
