Supermodel Bella Hadid, the sister of Gigi Hadid recently joined Nike's campaign ad and fans of the athletic gear company aren't too happy about it. Fans of the brand have attacked the company for featuring Bella and her "too thin" frame which they deemed isn't athletic enough.

The Nike ad backlash went full throttle when the supermodel posted a photo of herself beside her billboard. Major fans and sportswear fanatics criticized the photo and the campaign with some people saying Bella Hadid was "too skinny" and "malnourished" to model as an athlete. According to Hollywood Life, people pointed out that her ribcage sticking out and thin frame could promote eating disorders and unrealistic standards of beauty.

There were some who even went far to say that they have discontinued their support for Nike for their choice in featuring Bella Hadid. Some people have shared online that they prefer sportswear advertisers to be real athletes instead.

While many people defended Bella Hadid, prominent Olympic figure skater Meryl Davis spoke up and criticized athletic brands for hiring models to become spokespeople for athletic sportswear such as Nike. Bella's mother Yolanda Foster came to the aid of her daughter.

Foster responded back revealing Bella was a top equestrian who would have gone to the Olympics if it weren't for her Lyme disease diagnosis. The new Nike spokesperson was in fact, a competitive rider from the age of 3 up to 15 years old. Foster added that Nike isn't only suited for athletes as anybody can wear them, Mail Online noted.

Bella is geared to walk in the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show with her sister on November 30. The show won't be broadcasted until December 5 next month on CBS.
